Finding the Perfect Blend
Finding the Perfect Blend
In my introductory blog post, I’ve talked about how I’ve gotten started on my essential oil journey this spring. Like a fellow newbie, I’ve researched and bookmarked favorite websites on essential oils and how effective it could be for you and your family. In this blog post, we're going to talk about journalizing your essential journey and finding the perfect blend for you and your family. When you’re first starting out, you experiment with your first six oils before expanding your collection to add others you would like to try. And the best way to do that is to organize your blends and journalize them every month in a binder. You can use a spreadsheet, a notebook, or to buy one from Essentialoilhaven.com. It’s a perfect way to keep track of your favorite oils and blends for diffusing, household use, and even for topical application with a roller-on bottle.

Before you start mixing your own blends, try each oil out and see how it smells in your room. Did you like the smell, love it, or hate it? That’s how I started out in May by diffusing each oil and taking notes. I also pinned a lot of blend recipes from Pinterest and placed them on the board—a majority was for diffusing, while a small portion was for DIY household use and for roller bottles. And then I took notes in a notebook on how many drops I needed, how many oils it was, the property (or properties) it would be used for, and what oils I needed to add in the future. That’s when a wish list would come in handy. If that oils becomes free with a sale (whether to try it in a small sample package or in a bottle), or be discounted from a sale like a BOGO, I would strike the iron while it’s hot to get it that way. Or wait until I have enough money to buy it later on.
To get a feel for things, I would diffuse those pre-made blend recipes I’ve selected online and see how it worked. I haven’t perfectly the art of blending my essential oils yet since I’m still new to do it. It’s clearly a trial-and-error process. The art of making the perfect blend can be made from two to five oils with a variation of the number of drops per recipe. And it comes down to selecting the right fragrance notes for a perfect synergy. Think of being a band member in an orchestra and symphony when you’re the maestro to conduct it for your senses. It’s broken down to three types of fragrance notes. Top notes like peppermint and citrus oils last ten minutes to give you a fresh impression of the aroma, middle notes like tea tree last two hours are the heart or body, and base notes like patchouli lasts longer for you as a fixative. Sometimes notes can double as top/middle or middle/base for your blends.
For example, if you do a two-oil blend, you can do a top or a middle, or a top and a base. The same for the three-oil blend, if you have one of each note. And if you have four or more oils, you can use two top notes, one or two middle notes, and one base note to round it off to create the perfect blend for diffusing and later for using as a topical application. Keep practicing until you get it right and smells wonderful. That’s what I’m going to do too. So far, I’ve created two pre-made roll-on blend recipes I’ve found online: one for headaches and one for immunity boost/seasonal support. It worked like a charm for me ever since I’ve used it for daily use.
When you're on the go, bring along your Immunity roll-on bottle! This is the perfect time to boost your immunity from seasonal allergies to the cold and flu season, or when stress wrecks havoc on your immune system. It can help promote a healthy immune system and protect against occasional environmental threats. RMO’s Immunity Essential Oil Blend has a fresh sweet scent with menthol-like undertones. It has a Frankinense Carterii constituent that’s known to help encourage a healthy immune system. The Immunity Blend is made from Frankincense, Lemon, Lavender, Cardamom, and Marjoram Essential oils in a base of 98% Fractioned Coconut Carrier Oil, and part of the Wellness Collection.
Just apply it to targeted areas such as the back of your neck, chest, or the bottom of your feet. Don’t apply it on or around your face.
